My synopsis blueprint…

A few people on twitter have asked what the blueprint for my synopsis was. I know it’s a daunting task… at least it feels like a daunting task when you start. And while, yes you are thrilled when it’s over, it’s also very rewarding to get through it. Below are the steps I took to write my synopsis… in 7 DAYS… DAY 1: Write everything you know. And when I say everything. I mean. EVERY.THING. Write crappy. Write fast. Don’t dot your “i” or cross your “t” just make sure YOU can read it… cuzz NO ONE ELSE WILL, so it...

Synopsis… Oh how I loath thee…

Let me count the ways… You prevent me from querying some agents who require them. You make me spend countless hours thinking, writing, cursing, rewriting, more thinking and still more rewriting and I still probably don’t have it right. You claim I can only use 1/5000ths of the words I used to write the novel to get my point across. That’s like putting on pantyhose when you are wet! You claim I can’t just write “READ THE BOOK” and be done with it… I mean really, what gives? That should be totally acceptable. You claim there should be “no...

got passion?

I know… this is cliché as all get out… but it’s my topic today. I’m sure a lot of you hear this from every angle of your quest for publication. Friends, agents, editors, publishers… they all want passion! But what type of passion are they looking for? Do you know? Are they looking for passion in the novel itself? Yes. Does this mean that you have to write a steamy scene to make their eyeballs bug out… uhh, no. Wrong kind of passion. The passion I’m referring to is in YOU and has to be transferred into your novel using the tools God gave you…...

Query times two…

I know… I know… It’s very hard to be in two different genres at the same time. I know this. It’s hard. It’s a lot of work. It’s time consuming. But while it is all of these things and more… It’s NOT impossible. Which is why I’ve got to try. Last October/November I completed a Womens Christian Fiction novel. Yes, I know it came in around NaNoWriMo but I’d started in in April, so it really didn’t count as a NaNoWriMo Novel. I finished it around then, but didn’t take any credit for writing it in a month.  Anyhow, It is a...

Conference…

If I was asked to sum up the Rocky Mountain Fiction Writers Conference in one word, that word would be: WOW. First of all, if you have never considered going to any local writers conference, you should start considering now and doing the research. Things you want to take into consideration when searching for a conference are: Who’s going to be there? (Agents? Editors? Presenters?) Topic of Workshops? (Honing your craft? Critiques? Panels?) Cost of Conference? (Always refer to your budget) Will you have friends attending? (This one matters little unless you are completely so introverted...

If you missed it…

Check out my post on Google Alerts, you will not be sorry you did! It worked and I am happy to have been part of the experiment. This morning I woke to a full email box. Some good news, some bad news, some news news, and no terrible news. At least it shouldn’t be terrible. It had me looking at the ledge, but it’s definitely not terrible. LOL If you get that reference… well… wish me luck as I jump off and make a big SPLASH! I am rewriting my DEGLAN RISING query right now… In fact, I officially renamed it to DRAGONS FOREVER (Thanks in part to the following...
