Oh Eisley,it was so neat to see you in person(okay sort of in person). I am so thrilled for you and wish you nothing but luck.
I loved your vlog.
I hope to be entered into your giveaway.
Woo-Hoo for you.
Maribeth
I love your hands on analysis, all up until you make me want an iPad!!! LOL Oh well, it’s no secret I wanted one long before you extolled its virtues.
Interesting. I’m still a little iffy about the whole e-reading thing. I understand that if I get a book published it’s an option that will probably happen but as a reader I like paperback. I like to own shelves and shelves of books. I haven’t liked reading textbooks on the computer. Poems and short stories on writing.com I can handle. My friends stories and chapters they send me (which doesn’t happen often enough) that is no problem. But published books seem different. I’m crazy like that. lol
Great vlog.
Eisley! This was the best vlog I’ve ever seen! You are so animated – I love it.
My hubby and I did research on the e-readers just the other day. Sony has one also (Sony Reader) that apparantly can read PDF and epubs also that runs about the same cost as the Kindle or Nook. I would love to get an iPad just for the ability to read all types of files, but I don’t really want to pay 500 bucks for it. *shrug* So, we’ll see when tax time comes around which one I actually get.
Yeahhhhh, still don’t want an iPad. All I want is the nook to read books. I don’t need any other applications. And I can do anything else on my computer. Then there’s the fact that the eInk is sharper than an LCD, and puts less strain on your eyes.
Side note, iPad does not have a USB port, so the ability to move files is hampered.
Hi Eisley,
First of all, I wanted to say thanks for the headsup on Calibre, I have a bunch of mobi files I thought I’d lost forever!
Secondly, though, I just wondered why you didn’t mention the plethora of Android tablets which you can put all the eReader software on to (Kindle, Nook, Borders ePub readers etc…), just like you can on the iPad but they cost up to $200, have SD card and USB ports for file exchange and memory expansion and are, mostly, half the size of an iPad (which really isn’t throw-in-your-bag portable). I have the Cruz eReader and it is AWESOME.
As a side note, if you really do want to mark up documents on a tablet screen, you’ll find that, while more expensive than an iPad, Windows tablets are a much better option because they have the computing power you need to do it properly, will run full software which can read the files, as well as having a USB port or SD card to transfer them more easily. I’ve been using a tablet PC to mark up my manuscripts with e-ink since 2003 and have saved many a forest in printing!
