Spam spam spam…

And we aren’t talking the canned meat here… though, if you like it, I have a great recipe called African soup. My FIL lived in Africa for some of his growing up years and it was a great soup they made there… in place of spam, they used monkey brains… truestory. If you want the recipe, I will post it at the bottom… My MIL will be thrilled if you all tried it. And if you like spam, it’s awesome. If you don’t, it’s still worth a try.

Ahem,  so yes spam.

It’s me who is going to spam you for good causes… so bare with me for the next sixty seconds of your life… and click! :)

  • We have all heard the devastation that just happened in Nashville. The writers community has pulled together and is raising THOUSANDS of dollars to help the relief efforts. One such fundraising opportunity is Do the Write Thing for Nashville. You can bid on hundreds of items and donate money to the cause. I think at last check, they have topped 10K in donations! I might be wrong, but it’s awesome none the less… check it out!  —– Do the Write Thing for Nashville

  • If you have a problem donating to unknown people… you can always do the Red Cross thing! http://www.redcross.org/ You may donate by sending a check to: Nashville Area Red Cross at 2201 Charlotte Avenue, Nashville, TN 37203. Those who would like to make a donation over the telephone may do so by calling 1-615- 250-4300. For those who would like an even simpler and faster way to donate you may text REDCROSS to 90999. When you do, an automatic donation of $10.00 will be made. There will be a $10.00 charge on your monthly cell phone bill for the donation.

  • Those of you in Southwestern Denver, Friday May 14th at the Southwest Plaza Mall’s Chick-Fil-A there will be a fundraising opportunity for a team that is headed to Kenya Africa on May 26th. If you buy food, you just have to place the receipt in the box at the counter and a percentage of your purchase will go to the team! Yay! (NO this isnt my team… we are going to Ethiopia not Kenya… this is a good friend of mines team!)

  • Runs/Walks for life… Tis the season for runs/walks of all sorts to happen. People are always asking you to donate to their causes, can I challenge you to pick one and donate the cost of your starbucks for a week? The money goes to great causes (MS, Leukemia, Susan B Komen, etc) and helps to find cures for diseases.

  • And for those of you with no financial resources, there is something even better you can do for theses causes! Pray. Yup. Easy as a prayer. Yup, I even spam for prayers.

So, that is  my spam for the day… and now for the recipe!

African Soup
Ingredients:
1 stick of butter (not margarine)
1 can of spam (cubed)
1 can green beans
3 large cans whole peeled tomatoes (blended in the blender)
1 large can tomatoe sauce (not spaghetti sauce)
a few crushed red peppers

Melt stick of butter in large stock pot, add spam and fry until a bit brown. Add all the other ingredients and cool slowly for a very LONG time (actual instructions given to me). When it has condensed some and tastes delicious, it’s done. Serve over rice and enjoy.

I just “followed” you on Twitter. I’m also a fan of SPAM recipes. I’ve got a few of them on the Minnesota Recipes page of the Visit Minnesota site.

Hmmm…Not sure I’m brave enough to try Spam.

But what awesome causes! I’ve been checking out the DO THE WRITE THING… website and wishing I had more money! But I can pray–great point!
