First Person…

When I wrote RUNAWAY CHOICES, I started in first person and never left. It was an easy book to write and I felt like I captured the voice of Beck very well, as did my readers.

After reading RUNAWAY CHOICES, my friend Debbie (*waves*)  said, “I couldn’t help but wonder what RINGS OF TIME would be like written in this POV…” Hmmm, I’d never thought about it before. This could very well be an option… but wow, what an undertaking.

So yes, I am indeed writing ROT in first person now. It was a completed MS that had even been out on a partial before… but now I am tearing it up with first person.

At first I thought, wow, this is fun! Changing the she’s to I and my… then I read back over and went… Hmmm WRONG. So yah, I have to basically rewrite the whole novel, line by line. Can you say AWESOME? Ha, no I can’t either… yet! But I can tell you that I like what I see. A LOT.

Those beta readers who read the first “completely edited version” will be pleasantly surprised.

I have a 2500 word goal which should get me through the end of the novel by May 20th or so. I am already a bit ahead of schedule but it’s coming along great… well it was.

This morning I opened the MS and stared at the page wondering how I write this particular part in first person. I know it’s up to my music (lol) to put me in that place… so I am searching now for “that place music”. Then I can get cracking.

When I started editing this MS into first person it sat around 74,500 words… and at the moment I am just over 80.  Which is actually a great thing because I have to cut a whole scene OUT and still trim here and there, which I have been doing. Since it’s in first person, I dont have to stage cue as much, if you know what I mean.

So yah, I am thick into the novel and having fun… mostly. ;)
