I, Eisley Jacobs, do solemnly swear to complete my MG novel by June 30, 2010.
Why… because it’s so darn fun! I had the idea for this novel while driving around town. I think I was somewhere in Southeastern Littleton or Northern Centennial when I had the idea… and it hit me like a baseball flying out of control at someone not paying attention. It smacked me on the noggin and gave me an “Ah ha!!” moment.
DD10 was in the car at the time, so of course I ran over it with her… seeing as how she is the MG market. Her response was just so-so, but she thought the boys would really enjoy it. Knowing that there is a GREAT need for MG boys books (That means Denise, you better get writing) I certainly knew there is a good market for it.
So I did something I have never done… ever. I wrote my query… first! There was no story yet, not even a Once Upon A Time… Nothing written in this novel until after I wrote the query. I shared it with a couple people to gauge the idea and got such positive feed back I knew I needed to write this.
Then comes the first chapter. Written in a day, I read it to my market group (my kids- Girl 10, Boy 9 and boy 7) and they LOVED IT! I mean so much so that for the next two days they played around with the idea in their imaginative playtime!
*jawdrops* PERFECT!
I read chapter two with them and again, all kids giggled in the right places and DD10 picked out what MIGHT be happening.
*YAY*
Now after reading chapter three, they were white knuckling the table. “Is that it?!” Says one of them. I think they wanted more
Could I be onto something? I think so…

One Response
I had an idea for an MG novel once. Then I test marketed it and discovered that sentient flesh-eating bacteria aren’t really what kids want to read about these days. Who knew?
Erm… in all seriousness, I’m amazed at how much writing you manage to get done, good lady, in addition to mothering a brood of smart children. Good for you, and good luck with the new novel!
