Update Major…

I know @CA_Marshall knows the voice that my blog title is in… Steedis-la-peedis we are getting old! ;)

So much is going on in the Jacobs household that I thought I would update you on progress.

Ethiopia: I have almost all my funds raised for my Ethiopia trip! Which means in 38 days, I will be boarding a plane for Ethiopia! At our meeting last week we finalized a lot of our plans of action. We are collecting bracelets, pocket cars, hair bands and school supplies as gifts and packing them up in the following weeks.

I stood in the store today looking at everything and I feel so overwhelmed. What should I get? What will they like the best? What is the best use of my money? What will make them smile the biggest? In the end, I walked away empty handed.

I’m so humbled that I am able to do this… and the already overwhelming love I feel for the kids I’ll meet there is just bubbling through me. I want to buy them each a chicken… can I? What about a cow? I could do that… well okay, maybe I can’t do THAT… but chickens are possible ;) Hahaha…

Anyway… I am on the hunt for things of great prices… Jelly Bracelets and Silly Bandz might make the cut… I just am not sure. I want to make sure it’s “RIGHT”… but there is no right answer.

Novels: So either I’m crazy or smart… I haven’t decided. But I have decided to pursue Independent Publishing with my novel DRAGONS FOREVER. It’s been queried about 80 times, with positive results but no one wants to pick it up. I think it’s because it’s in alternating first person from the two Main Characters points of view… and that scares people thinking that middle graders can not possible understand two points of view. Also, I do use a couple “challenging” words… all of which have the jury split down the middle. Some people say, “no no no, take them out!” While others say, “don’t dumb down the book.” I agree with the not dumbing down the book… Words like: Desire, slim and pinnacle are perfect for vocabulary building and when used in context, none of my beta children readers had a problem with it. In fact when questioned directly they said, “I didn’t know what it meant but because you said <this> I knew it must have meant <this>.” WIN!

So I am pressing forward with Indy publishing as we speak. My cover is being worked on and I’ve set a proposed launch date of December 7, 2010… Oh yes. I did say December 7th.

And I am debating on a promotion ;) Maybe… buy the book on the launch date and get a free kindle verse and put into a drawing to receive a KINDLE! All the buyers have to do is forward me their receipt of purchase (minus card number info! I don’t need that) and they are entered into the drawing and then I can send over the Promotional Kindle Version… still thinking about the legalistics of this though… It sounds good in my head.

My other YA novel is stuck in limbo land… I have to rewrite a chapter and well… we’ll just leave it at that. ;)

I’ll be sure to order it!

Oh Eisely!!!!! I’m so happy for you. I think sometimes just having direction, having made the decision is enough to ease your mind. I can’t wait for it to come out. But man, December 7?? For realz??? You do know you’re going to Ethiopia is 38 days, right? Oh my word, you are amazing. What can I send you to take on your trip? anything? Can I send you some silly bandz? Pencils? Will you have room in your luggage? I wish I could go with you. This is just the sort of thing I want to do. After talking to you about it, I’ve just thought more and more and more, and I realized this is something I’m called to do. I hope someday…

That is awesome! I look forward to seeing the cover and eventually the book. If you do a blog tour then let me know. I’d be happy to help promote your book.
